KTW - Relay For Life
August 3rd, 2009

I shot these photos a while back for Kingston This Week but just never got around to blogging them!  I had the opportunity to shoot the Canadian Cancer Society’s annual Relay For Life at RMC on June 5th and 6th.  Here are some photos:

More Basketball Action - KTW
April 16th, 2009

Here are some more basketball photos for Kingston This Week, this time from the first ever Elementary All-Star Basketball games!  Most of these didn’t make it into the paper, but when I shoot the event I like to shoot some for myself as well.  So here’s my little photo essay of the basketball action!

I’m a huge basketball fan, so I was pretty psyched to go and shoot the senior boys all-star game at Queen’s University the other night!  It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, especially because I had it in my mind to shoot only horizontal frames for some reason.  Basketball players and horizontal frames do not go hand in hand.  Here are some of my favourites.

Although the composition is pretty terrible, you have to give respect to a big dunk.  This guy (Owen Klassen from Bayridge Secondary School) had some pretty big slams in the second half.

And here he is trying to throw down a missed free throw.  I’m pretty sure it was a lane violation, but check out the guy cowering next to him.  I have fond memories of getting dunked on in high school once, and I think I pretty much did the same thing.

Just do it.

Some behind-the-scenes action between quarters.

More KTW
March 29th, 2009

From the 5k St. Paddy’s Day Fun Run:

I didn’t know it at the time, but this day ended up being the last day for public skating at the downtown rink.  It’s always cool to see people enjoying the ice, but it’s even better to see the snow melt.

These shots are from an orchid auction by the Kingston Orchid Society.

So far shooting for KTW has been awesome!

Kingston This Week
March 26th, 2009

I recently started working for one of our local newspapers, Kingston This Week, as a freelance photographer!  It’s really cool because I get to shoot things and meet people that I normally wouldn’t.  And I think it’s going to help push my photojournalism skills because I’m trying to find new, creative, and interesting ways to shoot different events that aren’t weddings.  Here are some photos from one of my first assignments, a protest in front of Kingston General Hospital.

This is probably my favourite from the shoot.

As I get more assignments from Kingston This Week I’ll probably end up posting more of my favourites here!
