For Father’s Day, my wife got me the best present ever — tickets to go see Rush at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto with my friend Scott. I played drums in different bands throughout highschool and University and always enjoyed Rush (any drummer will tell you Neil Peart is the man). April makes fun of them, saying their music is all about Dungeons and Dragons, faries, and orcs. Not quite true, as this lyric from By-Tor & The Snow Dog shows:
I. at the tobes of hades
The tobes of hades
Lit by flickering torchlight
The netherworld is gathered in the glare
Prince by-tor takes the cavern
To the north light
The sign of eth is rising in the air
By-tor, knight of darkness,
Centurion of evil
Devils prince
Well, okay, so it’s music for nerds. But still, they are CRAZY talented. And at age 55 or so (I didn’t look it up so don’t quote me) they rock really hard. Like, SO HARD. They played for about 3.5 hours straight (unlike a certain other band who played a few weeks later and only played for around an hour…..*coughcoughColdplaycough*). Anyways, I just wanted to put it out there because 1) it was an awesome Father’s Day present and 2) live concerts with super talented musicians rule. Here’s a clip of Rush a few years back, teaching Brazil how to rock so hard:
rush! best show ever. :B
Awwww jeah.
