Contemporary wedding photography for Kingston, Toronto, Ottawa, Picton, and everywhere in between.

On Friday, May 16th I shot Kandice and Cris’ wedding in Ottawa and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day!  The weather was awesome, everyone looked great, the venue was perfect, and everyone had a blast.  It was a smaller ceremony for family, and then they had a larger party on Sunday to celebrate with more friends.  Here are some teaser photos, and a slideshow is on its way!

What Are Textures?
May 23rd, 2008

Every now and then I go into a phase where I’m really into textures. Textures (to the photographic community) are images of surfaces or objects (grass, lights, gravel, sand, cracks, peeling paint, etc) that are layered over top of your photo and tweaked to add a cool effect. Sometimes they’re over-the-top, sometimes they’re subtle, but they can add a really neat twist to a photo that, although it’s good on its own, now has a little more punch.

Here’s the original photo before any textures are applied.

Regular Ol' Image Before Texture

And here’s the photo after the textures are applied.  I think it’s a photo of some gravel, and another of a dirty wall with some cracks.  It’s not for everyone, but it’s kind of a cool option to play around with.

After Texture! Ta-Da!

Our son turned one on May 16th, and we had a small birthday party on the weekend with family!  The other babies in the show are Connor (my brother’s little boy) and Kellen (April’s sister’s little boy — he’s just over two months old).  Here’s a slideshow of some of the action!

This is our little boy, Parker.  He’ll be one year old next weekend!  Crazy!

Iron Man

French Iron Man Poster

April and I went to see Iron Man the other night!  I’m a big comic book nerd, but was never really into Iron Man except if he had cross-overs with other books that I read regularly.  I was still pretty psyched to see the movie, though, because the cast is great and it just looked pretty cool from the previews (and it was getting rave reviews)!  I would definintely recommend it to anyone who likes a good popcorn movie — it has cool action, a (somewhat) believable story, decent acting (especially Robert Downey Jr., who IS Tony Stark), and it’s just all-around good entertainment!

Looking for a place to upload all of your photos? Flickr is probably one of the biggest and most popular photo-sharing websites around, and it’s super intuitive and easy to use! You can use a free account (which has a few upload restrictions) or you can buy a subscription (around $25 for the year I think). You can add your photos to groups, join discussions, tag them with keywords to make them searchable, group them into collections and sets, and easily share the links with friends and family! If you have a digital camera and have taken a billion photos but don’t know what to do with them, I would recommend checking out Flickr. My Flickr page is here:

New Albums

Weezer Red Album

Two of my favourite bands, Weezer and The Rentals, have new albums out (or coming out soon)! The Rentals have an EP called “Last Little Life” (released last August) and a new album due next year, and Weezer has “The Red Album” coming out next month!  “Seven More Minutes” by the Rentals is one of my favourite albums ever.  If you need some new music to check out, I definitely recommend it!  And Weezer is, well, Weezer.  This post is link-tastic!

The Dark Knight
May 6th, 2008

I guess the last video didn’t last too long (which is too bad, because it was pretty funny).  Fox is good at tracking down and removing all Family Guy content from the entire internet.  Instead, check this out:

The latest trailer for The Dark Knight looks pretty awesome.  April and I are going to check out Iron Man this week (it’s supposed to be really cool, even for non-comic-book nerds) and then I’ll probably check out The Incredible Hulk (just because) and then it’s The Dark Knight.  Nerdvana.

Family Guy Voice
May 4th, 2008

This voice pops up every now and then on Family Guy, but to different characters. Cracks me up every time, especially when it’s so unexpected, like this (although I guess it won’t be unexpected now, but still).

Julie & Mitch
May 4th, 2008

Yesterday as I was driving back from Toronto, I was able to stop in to meet Julie and Mitch in Cobourg!  I’m shooting their wedding this summer and I’m really looking forward to it (Cobourg Beach!  Awww yeah)!  They were cool enough to let me take some photos right on the spot in sort of a quick, unplanned mini-engagement shoot!  Here’s the slideshow:
